Framework Convention on the Protection and Sustainable Development of the Carpathians (Carpathian Convention)

Definition

A subregional treaty to foster the sustainable development and the protection of the Carpathian region. It was signed in May 2003 by seven Carpathian States (Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovak Republic, Ukraine) and entered into force in 2006.

Its biodiversity relevance is that it includes a Protocol on Conservation and Sustainable Use of Biological and Landscape Diversity to the Framework Convention on the Protection and Sustainable Development of the Carpathians 2 and a Protocol on Sustainable Forest Management to the Framework Convention on the Protection and Sustainable Development of the Carpathians 3.
