Theory of change
Definition
“The explicit or implicit set of assumptions that outlines how a given action will lead to desired intermediate and ultimate outcomes. A theory of change is often displayed as a set of linked factors in a causal flow diagram, but it can also be described in text, mathematical equations, or other forms”. 1
A theory of change is a vital tool in conservation, providing a structured framework to map out how specific actions can lead to desired environmental change and conservation outcomes. Theories of change can be used to address complex challenges such as habitat restoration, species recovery, and community-based conservation.
