United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC)

Definition

The Convention was adopted in 1992. Its ultimate objective is the “stabilization of greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere at a level that would prevent dangerous anthropogenic interference with the climate system”. The Convention came into force in March 1994. In 1997, the UNFCCC adopted the Kyoto Protocol.

One of the three Rio Conventions.
